The year was 1989 and the modeling game was ripe. While Claudia Schiffer and Christy Turlington reigned, there was room for a look that was  fresh and different. Yasmeen Ghauri was discovered by a salon artistic director, Joseph Del Tortoon while working at McDonald’s in Montreal. Soon after she was whisked away to pursue a modeling career which took her everywhere from New York to Milan. Despite the disapproval of her father, Ghauri enjoyed early success landing her first Elle magazine cover in January 1990 and becoming the face of Chanel and Jil Sander. Known for her curves and sex appeal, Yasmeen became the muse of Azzedine Alaïa and regularly modeled for Victoria’s Secret. In 1997, the Pakistani model retired.
