Yesterday I met up with my friend Kye of Peak Aspect Photography to take some pictures. It was truly an honor, and a privilege to have someone so talented work with me. Am I a model? Nah, not by any means. This was an opportunity for me to step outside of my comfort zone. What he didn’t notice was me staring diligently. It was at that moment that I realized photography is a craft. There is a science to capturing someone at their most vulnerable and truest moments. You’re constantly thinking of how you want to look. You may be constantly calculating your moves in hopes of bringing forth the best outcome. Mid-way into it, I decided I wanted to be myself. Being a young black woman in the media industry often puts you in a defensive mode. Over the weekend, I found myself reporting on football and I actually enjoyed it. Step outside of your element and do something different. That’s the beauty of journalism. I always say on some scale, you must have a superior level of knowledge because you have to know a bit about everything at a moments notice. My hair is natural, I love makeup, I love trying new things fashion-wise and I love tapping into the depths of me. I don’t know it all, but I am enjoying the journey. Be inspired.
