Ok maybe not with them per se, but I was feeling the love as the drinks flowed from table to table at the 40/40 club last night. Beyonce, Jay-Z and the rest of the cotton club style gang hung out in a glass shielded VIP area in the center of the club away from all the common folk. It’s starting to feel like the spontaneity of all the industry stuff is starting to out number me 2 to 1. The night began with me on a step and repeat along with other entertainment media outlets awaiting the arrival of Jay and Beyonce for a post-concert interview. Jay-Z pulled up in an all black Maybach looking sexy as hell with his high wattage smile leading the way. We were told by his PR girl that Beyonce would not be coming. (Insert sigh of pre-anticipated disappointment here.) I made my way inside. After a few drinks (on the house) I started to head home. Just 2-feet from entering the cellphone signal-less train station I get a call. “Where are you? Beyonce just snuck in the back. Go back.” I go back into the newly renovated club and Beyonce is making her rounds in a separate VIP area filled with Jay-Z’s family and friends. I lost my shit. The highlight of the night was seeing Beyonce and Jay-Z’s mom in a close embrace. I think I’d give up a rib to be a Knowles-Carter. Other notable guest included Nas, Santigold, Melanie Fiona, Bethann Hardison, Steve Stout, Stephen Hill, and Jay’s BFF Ty Ty. Contrary to my once ignorant belief, Beyonce seems to be the cool girl within her circle. She was very chatty over glasses of Ace of Spades. In fact, Queen Bey looked spectacular in a tight red dress which hugged her every curve. Another unexpected night of reporter work under my belt. Read the brief story here.
