Greetings! I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I come back with some wonderful news. You are all invited to attend my dear friend, actress and Miss Black USA 2010, Osas Ighodaro‘s launch event for the Joyful Joy Foundation. As long as I’ve known Osas she has been such a positive image for young black women achieving their goals. Among our circle of friends she is the shooting star. I am so pleased and honored to join her on the hosting committee for this event as she works to improve the lives of others. Co-hosting is none other than the amazing A.J. Calloway, Extra TV Correspondent. It would mean so much to the cause if you could all come out and celebrate this generous endeavor. There is so much pressure that comes along with being a woman. You’re expected to wear sky-high heels 24-7 and keep your hair and makeup done at movie star standards. Of course this is all to be maintained while running around making things happen. I will be the first to admit it can be tiring. Sometimes you just want to roll up into the office with jeans and sneakers. For those days when you just really don’t care you still can be put together by going with a simple color palette. How can one not love Ebony Magazine? Since the redesign of the 67-year-old publication, the editorial team turned the content up a huge notch. Sophisticated ladies, Brandy and Monica cover the mag’s June 2012 Music Issue. Oh how I love that the fashion editor slipped this dynamic power duo into one of the season’s hottest trends: pastels! Monica’s fly lemon yellow blazer and frock confection matched with Brandy’s soft pink crisscrossed number is a literal fashion dream. Their summer ready looks succeed in making me want to run out to the nearest store and buy, buy, buy! I can’t wait to see the rest of the spread, but in the meantime join me in shopping for an inspired yellow or pink piece below.

Naomi Campbell Tapped for New Oxygen Reality Modeling Show – “The Face”

Just when I said I was through with all the cattiness and bitter fights that go along with reality tv, the Oxygen network made me eat my words. My favorite tantrum-throwing super model, Naomi Campbell will make her reality television debut as a judge on Oxygen’s all new modeling competition — “The Face.” With news of Tyra Banks firing her entire judging panel ( Jay Manuel, J. Alexander and Nigel Barker) in hopes of breathing some life back into ANTM, I can already envision the rivals going head to head in a ratings battle. Naomi has always been much of a private person, so I see this new venture as nothing more than a dig a Tyra Banks’ sinking ship. Can you imagine those poor hopefuls going up for panel with Naomi Campbell? Let’s just hope the aspiring models come with extreme Blackberry dodging skills.

Joe Fresh Flagship Store Brings Spark Back to New York Shopping

I’m a picky shopper. A bit of a snob if you will. New York is supposed to be one of the major fashion capitols of the world, yet there isn’t much variety here. I would say this lack of variety all began once H&M, Zara, and Forever 21 began to eat this city alive. I stopped shopping as much as I used to because I knew that there was a great chance someone I knew would be rocking my threads. I turned to thrift stores and unknown boutiques for the thrill I was seeking, but even then I grew tired. Shopping in New York just wasn’t the same. Until now. I know you’re probably reading this thinking that was an epic cliché, but just hear me out.

I was walking along 5th avenue last night when this bright beam of citrus light cascaded my vision. It was a new store. Whenever I see a new store I am forced to stop in. It’s more than just looking at the clothes, as a former retail worker I’m into the set-up and customer service as well. The flagship location of the Canadian retailer, Joe Fresh opened just two weeks ago in a chic architectural location that formerly housed a bank. As the picky, snobbish shopper that I am, I must admit that I was in love. If you are as bored as I was with shopping in New York, take a trip to Joe Fresh. The prices are super reasonable with shirts and blouses ranging from $39-$59, dark denim jeans for $29, and stylish loafers ran for a cool $49. A Trio of Bad Fashion Featuring Ashanti, Beyonce and Nicki Minaj

It is my aim to always focus on the positive when it comes to this blog, however it seems that recently some celebrities believe they can do no wrong. I guess public image becomes a minor priority upon hitting it big. Let’s dissect these three depressing images and shining examples of when bad fashion happens to good people featuring Ashanti, Beyonce and Nicki Minaj.

I was once a huge Ashanti fan. Ok, she’s no Aretha Franklin in her vocal ability, but in her prime she owned the cute, innocent, girl-next-door image that both mainstream and urban America seemed to eat up. It’s been four years since her last album and she has recently decided to give super stardom another go. Accompanying her along the ride is a ratty ombre wig, a Lil Kim inspired body-suit and bedroom slippers. Yes, those are indeed footwear made for the home. Ashanti is her own worst enemy looking to fail before her new album even hits iTunes. There is nothing positive about this look and if she wants to become relevant in 2012, she needs to hire a stylist as soon as possible.

Beyonce is untouchable on the internet. I don’t think I’ve read a negative comment about her style choices since her days in Destiny’s Child. Well, I’m going to take a gamble here and say, “me no likey.” How do you go from wearing a fabulous Thakoon dress to see-through leggings and sneakers? Granted, she is sporting the highly coveted Isabel Marant trainers, but that’s not the point. Beyonce, this look is not hot.

At this point I believe Nicki Minaj is used to being on the worst dressed list. The “Beez in the Trap” singer and ex-tweeter recently sat down with Nightline to discuss her success, childhood and how she hates being compared to Lady Gaga. Sorry to break it to you Barb, but wearing a bleach blonde wig, leather bondage accessories and going without pants is doing very little to discredit those accusations. This was a bad look Nicki. Very bad.

Going to bed with a guy can be a scary thing. Especially if you are an anxiety-driven type-a personality like me. Not only do you stress out about your panties being sexy enough, but then there’s looking good in them. Oh and for us makeup lovers, there is that added bonus of whether we leave the goop on through the night. Thoughts take over the mind of, “will he still think I’m as attractive sans lashes, bronzer and blush.” In the Summer Fashion and Beauty issue of The New York Times Style Magazine, Sandra Ballentine sought out some expert advice on the conundrum.

Leftover makeup is my favorite look .” says Estee Lauder’s creative director of makeup, Tom Pecheux, who created a sultry version of it for Balmain’s spring runway. “It’s the sexiest thing on earth. I agree. We all try to attain that look before heading out for the night, so why not go for the real thing. I say if the mood is right and if it spontaneous, leave it on. If you and your guy have been seeing each other for a while, then spare him the hassle of having to take his sheets to the cleaners. I’m curious to hear your thoughts. Recap: Makeup Madness at IMATS New York 2012

I feel like I have been a bad blogger when it comes to providing detailed fashion and beauty event coverage. Forgive me? My not-so-convenient work schedule makes it hard to make it out and many go a-miss. Fortunately, that was not the case this weekend when the ‘Schedule Gods’ descended their grace in my favor, making it possible for me to attend IMATS New York 2012. A big chunk of my friends work in the beauty industry as makeup artists, editors and bloggers and it’s enticing to see their excitement for IMATS rise on an annual basis.

I was in the number along with other beauty junkies, enthusiasts and teachers at Pier 94 along the West Side Highway. I heard last year’s event was hosted in a smaller venue, so the bigger space was well received. The International Make-Up Artist Trade Show was produced by Make-Up Artist Magazine and sponsored by Royal and Langnickel. To paint the picture for you imagine two huge basketball gyms filled with makeup companies and ongoing makeup classes taught by experts and industry vets. Some of the companies in attendance included NYX, Inglot, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, Naked Cosmetics, Eve Pearl, Stila Jessie’s Girl, Lime Crime and Cover FX to name a few. If there was a heaven for aspiring makeup artists that would have been the locale. Check out the pictures below.
